View of the Highline terrace. Along the old infrastructure buildings of the viaduct, a promenade with a strong industrial character connects the esplanade to the new park.

View of the Espanade. The Public space between the train terminal and the old city center becomes a formal shared space, a gate to the city center.
The subject of this competition is the urban planning and transport solution for a new main rail station in Brno, and simultaneously the formulation of a strategy for a viable urban district corresponding to the needs and realities of the 21st and 22nd centuries.
The southern portion of the centre of Brno is a brownfield resulting of the unplanned interweaving of railway lines and the initial growth and later decline of industrial production over the past 150 years.
The public realm proposal is made of four main entities:
– The Esplanade: Located between the train station and the old city center the esplanade is a formal shared public space connecting historic and new city centre.
– The Highline: Along the old infrastructure buildings of the viaduct, a promenade with a strong industrial character connects the esplanade to the new park.
– The Industrial park: With its unique character, it is a strong identity symbol of the city.
– The Central park: Defined by new urban edges, the railroad and the Svratka river, the park offers prime views of the main Brno city landmarks.
