The concert hall is located at the northern entrance of Luitpoldhein Park, to the south of the Nuremberg’s city centre. The new building is based on an innovative wooden construction encased in a lightweight glass façade. As an interaction with the new concert hall, the landscape proposal creates a planted urban square that links the city with the park.
Its ground treatment is primarily mineral to allow easy movements across the square, with lawn and meadow areas providing porous ground featuring seating along their perimeter.
Besides the modernist landscape located in front of the Meistersingerhalle entrance, the proposal features circular planted areas which define the space and naturally lead pedestrian movements towards the site’s entrances. One entrance features a water pond flanked by two existing mature Oak trees planted in 1879 and 1901.
The main lawn area is dedicated to the new concert hall. Its shape is a raised bowl, offering a leaning surface directed towards the building for informal, amphitheater-like seating. Its raised perimeter leads pedestrian flow towards the concert hall and frames the view, and gently protects the natural amphitheater from the main road.
In continuity with the glass box connecting the two concert halls, the patio is densely planted with small, colourful trees such as Japanese maples, and offers a desirable meandering path to the park.
