Djao-Rakitine Team: Irene Djao-Rakitine, Amélia Chevée, Jitka BenesovaThe Snowsfields and Bermondsey public realm project is part of the Saint Thomas Street East Masterplan. It is an opportunity to improve the overall biodiversity, streetscape atmosphere and pedestrian experience with wider pavements, new open spaces, quality ground materiality and furniture as well as characterful and diverse planting.A parkway atmosphere is created throughout St Thomas Street East framework with clumps of trees including diverse species and sizes to emphasize the idea of an informal, friendly and green environment as well as enhancing biodiversity.
For the square, we suggest a single character tree which size and morphology would immediately create a history of the square. We are designing a series of sculptural elements including playful seating elements, table and public drinking fountain. Together with tree planting and located in strategic locations, they would create a unique sense of place.A miniature English landscape garden is created on the rooftop of the Bermondsey building. The aim is to create a real garden away from the traffic, generously planted with a very diverse and colourful palette of trees, shrubs and groundflora.More projects
