Djao-Rakitine Team: Irene Djao-Rakitine, Amélia Chevée, Marie Saalburg, Joanna EderydThe Arena’s forecourt will provide the largest pedestrian area at Porte de la Chapelle. It is one of the new squares of Grand Paris, largely planted, like a park where locals, spectators, workers and visitors meet; a square that connects Paris and Saint Denis and remains active day and night and throughout the year, including outside the Arena events when it is “on standby”. Generous and exclusively pedestrian, the square of the Arena is a place with multiple uses throughout local and regional scale.The planting density of the square offers a large number of benefits specifically relevant in the hyper-urban context of the Arena. Lawn surfaces help reduce noise pollution, filter runoff, absorb CO2 and release oxygen. Vegetation helps to cool the environment thanks to evapotranspiration of tree leaves and grasses. On top of the Arena Terrace, the tree planting palette of the square (mostly including native and non allergen species) is used for all planters surrounding the main volume of the Arena. The planted terrace offers a space that reinforces the environmental and social qualities of the project. Fully accessible, it offers a playground as well as a flexible space allowing events and a large terrace for the restaurant.Located at the confluence of four new projects, the arrival of the Arena reinforces the creation of a strong, attractive and connected district renewing the identity of the Porte de la Chapelle.https://www.adidasarena.com/arena
