Wood is flexible and robust. It is warm and pleasant to touch. The wood used for the New Classics is Iroko hardwood (botanical names: Milicia excelsa and Milicia regia), due to its density, robustness, durability and colour. Iroko varies from pale yellow to golden or medium brown and the colour tends to darken over time. The wood has a medium to coarse texture and interlocked grain.
Metal ensures solidity, slimness and durability. The use of a thin steel structure for the seat ends provides the slimness of the design. Stability and rigidity of the bench are achieved by running a hidden metal structure throughout the length of the solid wood pieces. With no visible metal welds or screws, the minimalist look of the bench is maintained.
The products have been designed to suit all types of contexts. Their design fits contemporary as well as historical projects. In order to maximize the comfort of all users, proportions are generous and all products have armrest and backrest options. The design of the collection provides broad flexibility for different furniture assemblages.
The wood used by the manufacturer comes from legal harvesting, with Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) certification upon request. FSC® is an international organisation promoting responsible management of the earth’s forests. FSC® chain of custody certification traces wood through the supply chain to forests managed to the high social, environmental and economic standards that FSC® holds.
Iroko hardwood ages very well outdoors and is suitable for any weather. It can either be left without treatment and by natural weathering, gracefully change colour into a grey nuance, or oiled every year to maintain a warm timber colour.
The steel is protected by powder coating which makes the material resistant to corrosion and long-lasting. A matt structure powder coating is used as a surface treatment, available in various shades of the RAL chart.
