Terrace Garden within the Garden RingMoscow, RussiaDescription: New public gardenLocation: Smolensky boulevard, MoscowStages: Concept designPeriod: 2016Area: 7951 sq. m.Client: Strelka KB / City of MoscowDR Team: Irene Djao-Rakitine, Povilas MarozasAlong Smolensky Boulevard in Moscow (within what is called the “garden ring”), the proposed new terrace garden provides an open space addressing the busy streetscape of the boulevard as well as a quieter open space around a residential tower block.The northern part is a garden plaza, opening on the public footpath through generous steps, which can be used as a seating area. It is planted with blooming trees and offers a recreational platform that includes ping-pong tables, benches, tables and chairs to rest and play chess.
The southern part, the garden playground, is slightly enclosed and sheltered from the boulevard. It is softer and includes more diverse planting. Dedicated to children, the garden playground includes swings and slides.Garden plaza and garden playground are both connected by a series of beech hedges defining the different spaces. A running track designed in parallel to the residential building, highlights the building’s length.As part of the Garden Ring project, Terrace Garden was awarded by European Prize for Urban Public SpaceMore projects
